I just bought a new overflow valve to keep as a spare in case mine starts to fade. I have 85,000 miles on the truck. Then I thought "since I spent the money I should put the new one in and keep the old one as a spare". Is it as simple to replace as unscrewing the old one and screwing a new one in or is there more to it than that. Or should I not fix it if it aint broke. Thanks guys.

I replaced my overflow valve trying to track down an intermittent problem. So far according to my fuel pressure gauge it wasn't the problem but the intermittent problem hasn't returned - yet. Either way you do it won't hurt, it's an easy straight forward job. Main thing is to watch out that you don't drop and lose the two sealing washers. It's a good idea to stuff a rag under the valve before you start.

It IS as simple as unscrewing the old and screwing in the new. However, you should cram a rag in the space between the engine and the injector pump below the valve before doing the job. There are two flat washers that try their best to fall down and get lost in the machinery. The rag will catch them.

Ditto to what both illflem and joe G. said. I ran a new overflow valve on my truck (check sig) on a dyno and saw NO difference! It was still the old stock (probably original) nonadjustable unit.

Go ahead and change them. If you don't notice a difference, it must be fine.
