Anybody know an alternate source for an Overflow valve for a VP-44. Dodge wants $110. 00 for the damn thing Nothing more than a banjo bolt with a spring and a ball in it. If that ain't Highway robbery I don't know what is:mad:

What makes you think yours has failed? They are not a source of trouble on the 24v's. Having replaced over 70 VP-44's,I have never needed that valve.

I have been having a hard start problem and decided to test it. The valve does not hold any air pressure at all and the book says it should hold 10 psi or so. When I pulled it the ball was stuck open. Zero fuel came out of the VP when I pulled it. Seems to me I should get some fuel out at least.

Anyway just got off the phone with Keene Dodge in Jarrettsville. Theey only want $40. 00:) and I can have it tomorrow, the only bad part is I have to pay for it before they will order it. I don't get that, it's not a bannana or something that will go bad if I don't pick it up. It is a part for a Dodge. Anyway I'll just go along with the silly rules and get one in real soon.

Bob 4x4, Does it sound like I am on the right track?

Thanks

always starts (knock on wood)

Not sure never looked at a 12 valve.

Bob 4x4

It just cranks over for a couple of seconds if it sits for an hour or so

The overflow valve is different from a 12 valve, it has a little air bleed hole in it so it won't hold pressure after a few seconds of shut down. This allows for the lift pump to help purge any air out of the VP-44.

FYI

After calling around for the part I was shocked at the difference in $$ quoted at different places. $40. 00 at Keene Dodge. $110 and $115 at other local Dodge dealers. $24 at Cummins and they are the only ones that told me I should buy new washers (which I assumed came with the valve but do not) Anyway UPS to my door, never have to leave my desk, for under $40. 00. The Moral of this story is to call around for the best price. All dealers are not created equal. I'll post once I have it installed and let the guys with similar problems know if it stopped the hard start problems. Fingers crossed.

Funny< I could not figure out what the small hole was for but it was clogged. Startin to think this might actually solve my troubles.

Thanks
