My 99/Auto came without the overhead console. I purchased one on ebay along with a harness. The outside temp gauge and compass work perfect but the MPG and miles to empty are way off. Is the unit just bad? Is there a difference between the unit for a gas motor and a Cummins? Obviously it just plugged into the wiring harness so I dont think that there is a problem with the installation.

The parts book for a 2001 truck give two numbers for the module. One is for with security 55350 003AF and second without security 55350 660AF. Maybe you have the wrong year.

I used one out of a 2001 gasser 1500, it came with all the wiring, had to use the original loom from mine for the cab lights and just inserted the pin out of my old harness into the correct position in the gasser plug ... works fine on mine, it took about a week for the DTE to read up to the correct amount, it kept telling me I had 250 miles to empty with a full tank, now it shows 475 or something like that. the MPG is also fine on mine but once again it took a few days to settle in, said I was getting a whopping 9 MPG at a 70 mph cruise  but now reads around 19. 5 which is working out real close to what I am getting. :)

Give it some time and go through and reset all the resettables.

Hope this helps.

Hello A

I would love to see a pic or diagram of the wiring harness and sensors involved from the overhead console back to wherever and Is it a plug and play hook-up/ I know the cab lights have a different plug on the non-computer display then the one with it/ TIA/ Warren

MPG and 'miles until empty' are calculated based on the throttle position (rather than flow). Those who have installed bigger injectors will confirm this--their truck now indicates much better gas mileage than with stock. Even with my RV275's and a mild box I read much higher mileage than before. My guess is that it is the difference between the two engines.
