Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Overhead console fuel usage data

I installed a overhead console w/ trip computer in my truck and wired it in to the ccd buss. The buss connection tests good, but all I get on the display is distance. The fuel economy sticks at 0. 3 MPG and the DTE is 7mi w/ a full tank of fuel, and works its way down to 0 as the tank drains down. Compass and temp work fine after calibration. 2 possibilities: The trip computer is defective, or the PCM is not calibrated to send fuel usage information to the ccd bus. Does anyone have any ideas?
