I'm trying to remove the overhead console (the one with th reading lights and trip computer etc). The shop manual says to remove the 2 screws inside of the sunglasses holder, then pull the console down. Sunglasses holder !!!??? My truck dosn't have a sunglasses holder and the manual offers no other options on the removal of the console. Does anyone have any experence that may help me ?

TIA

Fireman

Sounds like you've got the shop manual for a 2d gen truck - they still had sunglasses holders. Wish ours did! Sorry I can't be of more help.

The screws are under the lights! I've removed it many times... just CAREFULLY pry out the lenses and you'll see one screw under each. I say CAREFULLY because they're on plastic hinges which might be easily broken.

Thanks Ryan, I took one of the lenses out, and must have missed the screw. You are right, those little plastic clips look awful dainty.

I have a 2003 shop manual, but it was one of the first editions that came out in late 2002,so there are quiet a few mistakes such as this.

Thanks all,

Fireman

Since you have it off, is the void between the lights an open area? Looks like a decent spot for a switch or two.

Sort of. There's a plastic "wall" (for lack of a better word) that runs up the middle of the open area. It's no problem to cut it away to add switches, like I did...

wow that's a nice install. if you were closer, I'd ask for help in doing it to mine. How did you tie in the idle speed adjust? I'm guessing that's for cold weather warmup. What is PC switch? John

Thanks for the compliment, John. The high idler is from Diesel Services Group, and I talk about the installation here. The "PC" switch is for the PC I have in my cab for OBD-II monitoring, discussed here.

Hardest part was the PC switch, because it needed a square hole. I cut it with a utility knife... it took awhile.

Junkie,

Take a look at that thread I linked to on the PC in the cab. I currently use the PC to monitor the engine via OBD-II. The switch on the overhead just activates a 120v inverter (via a relay) which provides power to the PC. The LED is connected to the power LED connector on the motherboard.

The high idler I use anytime I want to leave the truck idling for any period of time. Keeps cylinder temps up to avoid stacking. For example, I like to stop and help people broken down the side of the road, but I prefer to leave the truck running. The high idler allows me to walk away from the truck without worrying about it cooling down.

Fireman,
How did the install go? I'm ready to install mine once the weather gets above freezing! Do you have any pics?
Thanks,
Jack
