See sig for the vehicle. It has the full overhead console with the trip computer.

Everything except for the trip odometer, which always reads zero. Distance to Empty, MPG, compass, temp, etc. all work except for the trip odometer. I've done the FSM test, and it apparently passes.

Any idea of where to look next?

I don't have an answer for you, but I do have EXACTLY the same problem you have described and I've always wondered if there was a way I could fix it. Everything works great except the trip odometer. Hopefully, one of the knowledgeable folks here will have some good info.

BTW, mine is a '99 too.

Since all the other items work, I would guess that there is a problem from the signal to make the Odo. work. I had a problem one time where the unit itself wasn't doing the display full brightness and sometimes went off completely so it was replaced under warranty.

I woud sugg. to take it to the dealer and have them do a diagnostic on it and see if there is not another problem that is making the console not work

I hate to say it, but I think you need a new trip computer. Since the Odo data comes over the data line, and things like MPG and DTE need that same data to make their calculations, the data is getting there. It just isn't using it for odometer display. The only way to tell is plug in a good one and test. That's what the dealership will do.

Does anyone know how hard it is to install a trip computer in a truck that does not have one already?
From what I read it is not worth the hassle. However, if you can find a complete rig in the junkyards... ... .
