My father-in-law had a problem with his outside temp. gauge in the overhead console. The other day it was 9 degree in Wisc. where he lives. The temp gauge was bouncing between 26 and 28, once the cab warmed up it read the proper temp. Has anyone else experienced this in cold temperature? Is this something that is to be expcted in the cold temps?

Thanks ahead of time for any reponses.

If your in-law has a winter front on his temps will read high till it comes off although highway speeds will bring it closer to correct. Not sure of the exact time, but 3 minutes sticks in my mind as to how long it takes after start up for the temp to update. The temp will read what it was when parked days beforehand on the next startup.

Mine reads correct when started. It does increase about 3 degrees after being driven a few minutes though. My '94 gasser always read right on.

Check the connection on the sensor (on the left bumper bracket) and the one on the back of the display.

I had to have my sensor replaced last year. It's been pretty good since. It does get stuck at start-up from time to time - like it's still on the temp it was at when the truck was shutdown last. This usually just happens after it's been sitting for a few days. It'll straighten itself out soon after. Like this morning - it said 9 when it was really 46. It came around after a minute or two.

Temp sensor location..

My temp sensor is located on the back of the

grille. The wires are routed from the base of the

hood near the left hinge.

Seems as if the earlier models had the sensor

elsewhere. .

The temp display has not acted up on mine yet,

the coldest temp I've seen is 25.

Both my Ram and my Jeep will stay at a previous temp for some time. I read somewhere that if there is certian difference between the temp at shut down and start up the electronics will take a time to stabilize. Once they stabilize my temps seem to be pretty close.

It seems I have to drive down the road aways for mine to read right, even then its usually a couple degs. off.

chuck. :)
