Overheating problems

A friend was shopping for a new truck and was told that several have come back for overheating problems. I don't know if this guy just wanted to sell her an "in stock" truck with the third generation engine, or was acutally telling the truth. :-laf

I did a search of this forum and didn't see anything under "overheating". What say you all?

Must have been talking about a Duramax, they are known for it, allways run hot, even in cool weather.

sounds to me like a salesman that doesn't even know what he's selling or they had to many 07's left with the 5. 9 so they were told to push them any way possible ?????????? I dono

Freightliner has hundreds of (2007 with trap filters) trucks towed in with melted pistons, valves. This is on the big rigs with steel, not aluminum, pistons. I don't know how many of those are Cummins, and I don't know if they are exactly melted thru (hole in piston), or just seized from excessive temperatures.

The technology is still new, and the EPA may be forced to mellow out the emission standards a little, if they want any of the new trucks to stay on the street, as opposed to everybody rebuilding the old ones for 20 years.
