I just replaced a leaking water pump on our '03. I no longer have the leak, but I'm still quickly getting to overheating. It seems like its been overheating quicker and quicker over the last three days. I first noticed the water leak three days ago.
Welcome to the TDR. Sorry if this seems like an obvious question but have you rechecked your coolant level cold to make sure there was not an air pocket when you refilled. Also maybe check or replace thermostat. Fill out your signature with the details on your truck so we know what you have. Does it overheat with normal driving empty?
Matt
It was getting dark as I got back from the test drive so I haven't rechecked anything ( also was a little frustrated). I was planning on testing thermostat in the morning. It idled for about 20 minutes and the temp never got above 140. After about 3 miles at 45mph it got to 200. Within 5 miles it was almost redlining. I'm also wondering if what I was told was a 50/50 mix wasn't.
What I do when I have to refill the system is take the heater hose off that is attached to the head (top one I call it) fill slowly with coolant until it starts to come out of the head or that heater hose connection. Put the hose back on and fill until radiator is full. Never had a problem and that definitely gets any air out.
Thanks!!!!!! Ended up pouring about two quarts down the return hose and another quart in the radiator. It burped out a few bubbles. went a couple exits down the highway and back and it never got above 190!!!!
