I know you want to say head gasket. Lol!! The problem is, it will only overheat occasionally and the coolant is cool to the touch when it happens. Almost like the block is not getting cooled. I've change t-stats, flushed rad., changed rad. caps, cleaned puke can. A couple of times, the upper rad hose was collapsed, but not always. Can be driving with temp at normal, then all of sudden, it shoots up. Stop and sit for a while and will drop.
I'm lost on what it could be. Any ideas??

the only item you didnt mention is water pump.

I cant make the arguement why its intermittent.
How many miles?
Anything done to truck just before problem, maintenance, performance upgrade?
How long this been going on?
Any codes?

Anyhoo, these answers could help narrow down the cause.

Cheers, Ron

What year? Do you have a bleeder port above the EGR cooler? Are you sure the engine is hot and not just the gauge telling you it's hot? How hot is overheating?

Need little more information, like manual transmission, automatic transmission,as Aisin or 68RFE, what year, kind hard to figure out with information given?

Another thing, if you're saying the upper radiator hose is collapsing, sounds like there's air on the engine side of the thermostat. Does your thermostat have the little jiggle air bleeder on it?

My question here is, when I tow my 33' covered snowmobile trailer (10 k), I am seeing coolant temps at 205 to 215 at times at 67 mph on cruise, at times and have set CEL with P 026A , (Charge Air Cooler efficency) and P2228 Baro Circuit Low . ?? I have replaced the front bumper with a more user friendly HD one, on my MY16 2500 4WD (never pulled this trailer with stock front bumper) and talking with a couple of other guys here in the Laramie area (at 7260' altitude) who have also changed the front bumper and have chased this P 068A code have solved this by either changing the bumper again with different ones with far less cooling air restriction or one guy just cut 2 more holes (4.5") on each side of the licsense plate for more air flow to the intercooler. I have only seen this code and CEL on my PU 3 times and all were coming back from the mountains (mostly down grade from 10,000') to 7260 here in town, but every time with a slight to moderate tail wind, never on the trip outbound up hill into the same wind My thoughts here are the altitude (Lower air density) and tail wind even though air temp is still around 35* to 45*F or less. Not enough air flow across intercooler. Any thoughts from "all you all" out there???

By the way, I have a brand new stock front bumper with plastics, with no fog lamp holes, if anyone needs it or knows of a body shop in need.
