Oxymoron: Cummins in a Intrntnl Scout!

Scouts in the late 70's had Nissan 4 or 6 Cylinder diesels. Anyone ever heard of mounting a Cummins in place of the Nissan Diesel.

Their are a few scouts running around with the 3. 4L 6AT Cummins. There was a web site... Cummins repowers I think. The guy who had the site had done 2.

I have seen a Scout with a B3. 9 in it. WAY COOL. The guy did it all himself, with all new parts. For a transmission he used an NV4500. He even put in new axles, Dana 44 up front, and a 70 in the back. Had over $20,000 into the project. Sure was nice.

I had a 1980 NTD, 198 CI, 110 hp @3800rpm.



Bosch fuel system. great runner, just underpowered by 200hp!!!





There is no feasable way to stick a 5. 9 in there. The little Nissan is against the fan and firewall as it is. What about cooling?



Even if you beefed the axles, would the frame take it?



I have seen one with a 6. 2 Chevy, what a waste of time!!

I don't believe, short of a "radiator cap transplant" (removing everything from under and then replacing everything under the radiator cap) there is anything you can do to a Scout to make it "nice".

You guys have to remember, The Ford boys don't KNOW they have IH engines. The badge on thet there fender says POWERSTROKE. That is a Ford engine. I have heard that for years,

"Ford dropped IH and is building their own Diesel. They call it the "Powerstroke, and it will beat that Cummins, even though we own Cummins we choose this engine. "

The 1981 protype Scout was awesome, fiberglass body, shortened wheel base. Too bad it never got to be.



BTW, my one diesel Scout outlasted about 10 of my Buddies Jeeps.

Another funny, Did you know Scout used JEEP axles? ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!



Jeep guys are almost as funny as Ford and Chevy guys!

Gee Mark, I've had one (76 Scout II) for about 15 years and it lasted through my boy all the way through high school. He used to get calls all the time from someone needing to be pulled out of the mud or sand somewhere!



I was considering trying to put a diesel into it but have lost interest as well as not having enough time.



If anyone is interested in building one up, send me an E-mail. I'll sell it. It's been sitting in the yard for the past 5 years or so.

Have lots of spare parts, even have a spare engine and transmission as well as a transmission and transfer case to convert to a manual setup. Wil start at $2K and see what happens. Like I said, been sitting in the yard for 5 years.

So IH used Jeep axles?! I've never seen an AMC model 20 in a Scout. That's the only true Jeep axle that I know of. Everything else they used was Dana/Spicer... just like the ones in the CTD, just alot smaller.
