Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) p 1687 question

On my 01 24 valve when i cycle the key 3 times it throws a p 1687. Just wondering what that code means?

I think it said that code was for no comms between mechanical gauge cluster and the ECM. Do your gauges on the dash work??
