I'm getting an engine light on and about when it came on my accelerator had no response for a couple of to the floor presses. I was a stop sign and it just idled and did nothing when pressed, then it worked.

I checked the code but have no idea what the explanation means. Can someone tell me what’s going on and what I can do? Do I need to shut down now?

Below is the code explanation:

P1693 (M) DTC Detected in Companion Module A fault has been generated in the companion engine

control module.

P1693 (M) DTC Detected in PCM/ECM or DTC

Detected in ECM

A 9Companion DTC9 was set in both the ECM and PCM.

(M)= Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is on during engine operation if this DTC was recorded

MIL is displayed as an engine icon on instrument panel.

Thanks

Mine did the same thing, but I had the dead pedal while I was driving, the p1693 code is a companion code, you will have to go to AutoZone or somewhere similar to get the truck scaned for codes, its free. I ended up with a p0216 code, dieing VP44. Get it checked in a hurry. If it does end up being the VP, you will likely need a lift pump too. Get a fuel pressure gauge for the next one and watch it like a hawk.

Would it have anything to do with adjusting the transmission bands? Or disconnecting the neg battery cables overnight?

Did both of those things in hopes of letting the ecm relearn the throttle position.

I had the code read by Auto Zone and at Gerhardts Diesel shop. AutoZone read the right code, P0121, but gave the wrong diagnostic, they said buy a throttle position sensor. Then a real diesel mechanic at Gerhardts (Scooter) read it as P0121 also but his diagnosis was low voltage from the TPS. He then adjusted a screw on the APP and the code went away. I had adjusted that same screw yesterday thinking I could lower then idle speed. Little did I know that the idle speed is controlled by the ECM. I may have blown the APP and if so thats going to be an expensive lesson. Code is clear for now but if if comes back its the APP.

My thanks go out to my fellow members who responded and helped me get past this Code P1693 issue. It turned out that P1693 was what my dash message center was telling me but when the code was read from a code reader it was P0121. P1693 did not show on either or two code readers that read the codes. Strange? Or normal?

Anyway my problem started when I took it for granted that I could just adjust the idle down without ever checking a manual. If your thinking "what a Dumb***", well I agree. I also agree that the diesel tractors that I kept going for years are not hardly the same animals as a CTD. Just cause theyre both diesel doesn't matter. So I will get mind alleged mind away from the tractor kind of diesel thoughts.

Thanks for the help and thanks to TDR.
