Just received P1693 whiling driving home today. Understand it may be an issue with ECM (not familair with ECM modules).

Wondering if other codes could be associated with this code?

Recently had FASS 95-1002 installed. Is this contributing to the issue?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

This DTC means either the ECM or the PCM has reported a DTC being set in the other module. For example, if a DTC is set in the PCM, the ECM will report P1693 letting you know it's aware of a DTC in the PCM.

Usually you can ignore a P1693 in and of itself, except you'll want to find out what's triggering it to happen. Do you have a good code scanner to try and find other DTC's?

Forgot to mention that my check engine light came on which prompted me to check for the p code.

I don't have a DTC scanner. Any recommendations?

Jim,

Any auto parts store, Walmart, Sears, etc. will have code scanners for sale. At a minimum you just need one that with display and clear the DTC's. Once you have a DTC, you can search here or the web to find out what it means.

Beyond the basics I just mentioned, the main differences in code scanners is how many bells and whistles they have... such as being able to store the list of the DTC's read for later recall, display a description of the DTC (usually very brief), and possibly display some limited real-time data. None of this is necessary, but possibly nice to have.

The mother of all code scanners is a full-blown Chrysler DRBIII scan tool which can be bought used on eBay for about $2500-3000 (my personal favorite). :)

Best regards,

John L.
