P-Pumped 24v Not Charging the Battery

My truck is a 2001 2500 4x4 auto. We put a P-7100 pump on it. We did not hook up the cam sensor and the truck does not charge the battery. We tried putting a 70's regulator on it and the truck will not shift out of first gear. Does anyone have an idea to bypass the cam sensor to make the alternator charge the battery? Any information would be appreciated.
