Hi. I have a 2003 2500, auto with 108K miles on it. On my way back to texas from Colorado I noticed the my truck hesitated when I let off the throttle and the speeds slowed down.

I made it back to Texas and right when I pull into my garage the check engine light came on. I ran the code on it and it came up with a P0088, Rail pressure too high. It was followed with a "ok to drive. " So I did that next day to work. When I was leaving work it sounded really bad so I shut the truck off and it still ran for a few seconds, then a bunch of smoke came out of the exhaust. I tried to start it up and it was a no go. I had a spare fuel controller actuator from a friend and I tried swapping it out, taking a shot in the dark. That didnt work.

the truck will crank, it just wont start. I just changed the filter with a fleetguard right before my trip to colorado.

any suggestions? Ive been trying to search and read this forum.

If you have no acess to test equiptment and have to swap parts go for the fuel pressure sensor... ... ...

I know this is an old topic but I wanted to update everyone in the event someone goes through the same thing I did.

I replaced the injection pump and it would still not start and still had the rail pressure too high code, even after clearing it. I noticed some soot under the filter. I pulled some fuel to see if I had water in it to no avail. I went ahead and drained he tank and addes fresh diesel and it fired right up. It looked, smelled and even tasted like diesel but I guess I had a bad tank of fuel.
