I've diagnosed a bad APPS - see below. So my truck is beyond the 36k warranty but still within the 70k engine warranty. Does anyone know if the APPS is covered under the cummings 70k engine warranty? I don't want to take it in and get charged for a diagnosis if they won't cover it.
If it is covered, I can't imagine what a PITA it's gonna be to get the Dodge dealer to comprehend the fault code/problem and replace it without being able to duplicate the fault. Anyone had any luck getting the dealer to replace it based on the fault code and an explanation of what happened - one time occurrence of dead pedal?
After reading the threads on this problem, I am wondering if the culprit is more often caused by a bad ground or a bad APPS module. Anyone know? Also saw the homepage TDR article on shielding the negative ground cable on automatics to correct a shifting problem associated with the APPS. Does anyone know if this is the same problem that would affect the APPS on a standard transmission-equipped vehicle?
My truck has had high idle problems for several years. When I exit and drop down to idle speed after extended highway driving, the idle would always be in the 930 ish range compared to 820-830 at startup. I can read the rpm accurately on my road relay. So last Friday I pulled off the freeway and the idle speed was higher than it's ever been - 1200. Pushed on the pedal and the engine suddenly dropped to 830 range, fault codes came up on the road relay, and dead pedal. The engine started responding after I shut it down and started up again. Fault codes from the dash were P0121 and P1693. Called a fellow TDR member and he searched for the fault code on TDR and diagnosed the APPS problem. The TDR is a wonderful thing; to be able to find out what is wrong and know more about it than most Dodge mechanics in a few minutes.
