Truck has been running pretty much flawless for the last couple of years as far as the engine goes. Replaced an injector or two in the early days.



This morning I noticed the smell of diesel when I got in the cab after about a 10 minute high idle warm up and thought my Espar was acting up again. Checked out the Espar and it was working fine. Thats when I noticed a plume of diesel vapor pouring out of the crank vent. I had checked the oil last evening and it was on the full mark as usual. After ruling out the Espar I checked the oil and was about a half gallon above full... ... ... ... ... rats. On the 25 minute drive home tonight my fuel gauge dropped almost a 1/4 of a tank!!! Code P0148 kicked on and power fell flat. Haven't Checked the oil yet but I got a feeling all that fuel went somewhere... ... ... ... ... ..... I wonder if the amount of fuel bleeding out of the rail is enought to throw the CEL? Just ran outside and checked the oil again and I'm about a gallon over full now.
 
Don't drive it! You're diluting engine lubricating oil with diesel fuel. You may have an injector sticking open.

If it doesn't overfuel a cylinder and melt a piston it will ruin rod and main bearings, camshaft bearings, and valve train, and might score pistons and cylinder walls with diluted oil.
 
That much fuel into the oil that fast is a cracked injector body or a CP-3 seal. Don't drive it or you will hurt things. Need to start troubleshooting the issue. The code is probably from the rail pressure dropping precipitously from a massive leak.

X2... and don't drive it at ALL. . HB jump on that... .
 
Hadn't planned on driving it. Going in for repair on Monday. I will have it towed. I'm leaning towards a CP3 failure but I'm going to let the dealer sort that out.
 
Cracked #1 injector body... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ..... Has anyone seen a cracked injector on a stock engine? I had an Edge EZ for a little while but haven't had it on since about 25k... ... ... ..... odometer is at 49,500 now. I suppose I should plan on a set of injectors before next winters plowing season.
 
Yep, on a couple 06's also. I think Bosch had some bad injectors in 06 when they moved production facilities.
