This is post largely for an archives search. My '03 ISB-305 developed a problem Saturday, rough idle/clacking sound like an old GM 6. 5. It's in a Hummer H1 and was getting thrashed about running some trails.
Loaded truck on trailer, took it home.
After getting the truck home, it wouldn't restart. It would start with a smidgen of ether, but that was it. Figured it wasn't getting fuel. I read a
P0192 code from the Smarty, and swapped the fuel rail sensor with the same one that's on my '06 Ram.
Started right up, ran fine (over and over and no more codes). For kicks I put the bad sensor in the '06 and it threw a P0088 code. Put the original sensor back in the '06 and it's fine. This is an easy swap, takes about 5 minutes.
I ordered a sensor Bosch # 0281002534 from the local Cummins service center. I actually ordered two, I'll keep a spare under the back seat.
I'm sure other things could throw this code, but replacing the sensor solved it for me.
PS. Consider getting this part from a Cummins distributor. Cummins Part # 3949988.
It's a whole lot cheaper than from the dealer.
