Drove home in limp mode and had P0206 and P2149 codes. Cleared with Smarty jr. and tried again and still come up. Do I need a new #6 injector? Any suggestions? I just rolled over to 108,000 miles, so it will be on me. I talked to Todd with T&C and he suggested replacing all 6, otherwise I will be replacing them one at a time. Any thoughts?
 
I have the same model 5. 9 and I have had injector issues also. In the last year I have spent about double what I would have spent to just replace them all at one time. From being stranded away from home to tow bills to lost income-I make a living with my truck. I only wish I had done them all at once. If it has as few miles as you say, maybe fix the one and then when another one goes out, do all the rest. Buy new injectors, I have replaced one of mine 3 times and one of them twice, all reman. I referred a friend to Todd, he sold him 6 new ones and my friend is very happy. I know it's a lot of cash to shell out all at once, but sometimes it's cheaper in the long run. Good luck!!!
 
I called the service manager yesterday when I got home and she said bring it on in as soon as I could. Well, I finally got the codes to stay cleared last night and drove it about 80 miles to the dealer this morning. Renee asked if I was dropping it off or waiting and got it right in when I told her I was waiting. I went ahead and had the transmission serviced while I had it in and was back home before lunch was over. I really like the service there, just wish my injectors would last longer and not have to replace them every 30k miles. The dealer is Benny Boyd in Lamesa, Tx. Candace is the diesel mechanic and this is the 3rd injector replacement she has done. If anyone is in the area and needs work done on their Cummins, I would highly recommend them!
 
I agree! I would like to go at least 200,000 miles before needing to replace injectors. I guess I got a bad batch. I believe each time it has happened, it has been on #2 bank, injectors 4, 5, and 6.
 
Would 2 micron filters help keep the solenoid operating? I think that was what was wrong with the injector. After sitting a while, I was able to clear the code and it didn't come back when I started the engine. I made the 80 mile drive to the dealer with the motor running normal. I think the P2149 code is a voltage error on bank #2. I know 2 micron would be beneficial to good maintenance and running of the engine, but I don't think it would prevent the solenoid from going out. Am I correct? If not, I will stand corrected.

Your poor results with fuel injectors is very odd. The OEM injectors were still fine in my '06 at 230k when I sold it.

I wonder if your truck has an electrical problem such as an alternator that is producing "dirty" dc voltage ie with spikes?
 
I had a problem with a bad battery connection several thousand miles ago and cleaned and reinstalled the cables and that went away. Also, I wonder if working an engine driven dc welder out of the back of my truck could be messing with my electronics? I don't seem to have any other electrical problems. I put 90K of the 160K miles on my '99 and the only problems I had with it were lift pump and grid heater. I sold it to buy this one and have wondered several times if I did the right thing.
 
I don't know enough to answer your question.

I assume by "engine driven dc welder" you mean the welder has it's own engine as I've seen mounted on many welder's trucks.

I'm also assuming the truck engine is normally not running at the same time as the welder motor so don't think the welder would interfere with engine electronics.

A good auto electronics repair shop should be able to attach an oscilloscope to the dc output of your truck alternator and determine if it is "clean" or not.

Now that I think about it, my original idle speculation is probably not on track because if your alternator was producing dirty or spiked dc voltage you would hear it in your truck sound system. As your engine rpm increases you would hear a sound like a motorboat revving up through your sound system speakers if it was a bad alternator.

Try sending a pm to Mike Mullenax. He's a TDR member and the Cummins tech at Elder Dodge in Athens in east Texas. He may have seen a similar injector problem and has probably also worked on a lot of welder's trucks.
