Both these codes came up on my truck, it is intermediate and if I stop and push the pedal to the floor board, the RPMs will slowly come-up and once the go above 2500 I can let my foot off the floor board and put it in gear and drive down the road with out any problems. I started a thread in "Truck 911"(new guy) explaining the what happened before.

I am not sure what to do, I hate top ut the truck in the shop and the VP44 not be the problem. But it seems like the only choice. Any suggestions???

My vote would be for a new VP44 also. Been where you are and called Cummins West, 2 Dodge dealers, and 2 shops that specialize in the after market diesel pickup market and they all said it was my VP44. I couldn't believe it since my truck only had 30,000 miles on it, so I pulled it and took it into Diamond Diesel in West Sacramento to rebuild it. My 2002 truck had the brass piston advance sleeve in the VP44 and it had worn badly causing the timing error. My VP44 also had several updates that needed to be done, one which involved updating the hole housing because of a bearing change, so they talked me into just buying a rebuilt unit off their shelf that had all the current updates in it.

It has run fine ever since.

Regards, Mike.

PO216 = Fuel injection pump timing failure

P1693 = DTC detected in ECM or PCM.

Like stated above get a VP44 on order.

P0216 & P1693

2000 CTD 115,000 miles, Airtex lift pump 18 psi at idle. 14-16 psi on road. original VP44.

Truck runs just fine, no dead pedal or smoking issues. Had some recent water in fuel

episodes (WIF sensor) Treated fuel with Valve Tect Bio Guard several times.

The WIF episodes were accompanied by more then normal fuel pressure loss under acceleration. New stratapore filters cured that problem. Clear slime cleaned from housing twice. Any suggestions? I'm hoping it's not the VP44.

I forgot to mention that the fuel gage also acted up a couple of times. It went to empty

upon start up and I got the low fuel warning even though the tank was full. Shutting down & re-starting cured this, and I ran the dashboard diagnostic and things seemed fine.
