I removed the OEM lp (my backup lp for my RASP) from the circuit because I installed a Walbro pump (now my backup lp for my RASP) managed by a on / off switch in the cab.



I removed the lp connector up on the driver's side engine and now of course get a 0230 code.



I measured the ohms of the OEM lp windings and read 1. 2 ohms.



If I made up a lp plug that had a 1. 2 ohm resistor across the pins, do you think the 0230 code would still be set?



What size wattage resistor do you think would be correct, or do you think it is primarily resistance the ECM is looking for and a 1 watt resistor would be ok?



Or am I just going to have to live with the 0230 code knowing what is causing it?

I ran a relay, more ohm's, it did not set a code...

may try 2 ,100 ohm . . 1 watt ... in series ,( 200 ohm 2 watt total ( or an old relay

I think the Computer just looks for a complete circuit...

Would seem a waste to run a resister to equate to a LP current load to satisify the computer...
 
I am going to put together a resistor pack this morning to mimick the lp and see if that will do it. Thanks for the reply.

In my setup, I also use a relay in the circuit that used to power the OEM LP - and have never set a code - the coil resistance of the Radio Shack relay I use is 120 ohms:

I would probably use about 200 ohms @ 2 watts for a resistor - that circuit would see about . 8 watts at 12 volts, so the 2 watt gives plenty of safety margin - but I suspect a higher ohm, lower wattage would probably work as well - just have to experiment.



Let us know what works for you - be sorta interesting...
 
The relay is how the factory gets around that same issue on the in tank retro-fit kit ;)

HMMmmmm - that's odd - wonder why they don't simply use a cable extender back to the new pump - makes me wonder if occasionally a pump fails due to an internal short, and then causes damage to the computer...



Perhaps the length and gauge of the pump circuit won't properly handle the load if merely extended?



In any event, I prefer to isolate the pump from the computer, and also provide greater current flow thru the added relay contacts when using non-OEM pumps...
 
I installed the 1. 2 ohm resistor package (8 @ 10 ohm 1 watt resistors in parallel) today into the lp pump plug up by the engine block. No more codes. After I installed the package on the lp connector and plugged it in I rechecked the resistance and the plug in module resistance increased to 1. 5 ohms. I can live with that.

The 8@ 10 ohm 1 watt resistors because I had those in my "junk drawer".
 
?? 1. 5 ohm's in line resistance?? That low resistance Seems like a waste of power to me. .
I think it would work with a higher OHM's, less current.

I just tried to mimick the resistance that the ECM would see if connected to a OEM lp.



I think the ECM only "knows" if the lp is shorted, or "open".

Does not appear to be critical, ie shut down the engine if it is "open", as it only sets the code.
