Got my first CEL ever today :(.

P0471 Exhaust Pressure Sensor Range/Performance.

Anyone here seen this before?

The first thing to check would be your fuel cap. Make sure it is "clicked" when reinstalling. Otherwise any air leaks can cause this code (assuming the sensor is OK).

There is a tube on the exhaust manifold that comes up to a sensor near the thermostat. It gets clogged with soot, just remove the sensor, take a piece of square lawn trimmer cord/string, and push it into the tube. Spin it around so it cleans out the soot. You can spray some brake clean down the tube to help. When it is cleaned out, but the sensor back on and drive it. It should go away after 3 key cycles. If it doesn't it may be the sensor, but it usually is a blocked tube. ")

I cleared the code with my scanner yesterday and have driven the truck 3 times since. The CEL hasn't come on yet. However, I am having the oil change and routine service done at the dealer Weds and will have them check out the pressure sensor anyway in case it might be partially blocked with soot.

We just had a major change in weather around here--went from 20 degrees out to 50 in one day. Wondering if the excess moisture and major temperature change might have had something to do with it. Seems like if it was a definite problem with the sensor the CEL would have popped back on after two drive cycles. I did double check the connector plug and it seemed to be on tight.

Update. I printed out this thread and gave it to the dealer. Turns out there is a TSB out for this so it was a no-cost repair (would have been anyway under the 100K warranty).

CEL is staying off. Thanks gentlemen! :)

What did they do? Replace the sensor, clean the tube?

Thank you AHarris. I will be adding a note to my EGR cleaning instructions to check that tube and sensor and will probably clean them up.
