Hey guys I checked for codes tonight and found P0602 which I found is common with Smarty and fixed with one of the new downloads. I also have code P0483 which I found to be cooling fan speed and found no relation to it coming from Smarty. I'll have to investigate tommorrow in the day light but was just interested who all has had this code and the possible fixes.

What I'm reading here and over on DTR is if all the wiring is plugged in and ok the fan clutch will probably need replacing. I'll have to check in the morning and might end up at the parts counter at the dealer trying to talk him out of a fan clutch. I just picked two front dually simulators rings from him this week at $60 a pop. The plastic clips broke on the 1st set. I wonder if frequent fliers get a free machanic shirt. ;)

It's been a while but I seem to remember a few of the older 3rd gens having the fan wire harness rubbing the block or something to that affect. I seem to remember it would cause that code and in some instances it would cause a no start because the PCM would sense the current draw. You may just want to crawl under there and inspect the harness before spending the money on a new one.

With that said, I have also heard that code be called a nuisance code as well and nothing to worry about.

Good luck.

I put the truck back to stock with the Smarty and reset the P codes. The P0602 was gone but the P0483 code was still present. I checked the fan wireing and all looked good. I found the fan to be a little stiff when turning by hand but no noise, you could spin the fan by hand and maybe get 3/4 of a turn. I went by the dealer and found the warranty left at 36,000 miles.

I never got a CEL only the codes. I played with the fan and found if I worked it back and forth it would loosen up and I could spin it by hand and it would turn 4 to 5 times. I drove it for a couple days and and the temp stayed normal and no fan noise. I reset the P codes and reinstalled the Smarty. Its been a couple weeks now and the P0483 code is gone. Everything is tight no play in the fan unit and the temp is normal. I'm going to run it until I can actually see or hear a problem.

My neighbor has the same truck he bought a couple months after mine and just for grins I cycled his key switch x3 times and guess what P0483 with no CEL. His truck is completly stock no mods and still in warranty. Makes me wonder how many people are running around with this code and dont know it.

Most likely the fan clutch is in need of replacement. Had to do one on a 2004. 5 about 6 months ago. You are going to need a special wrench. I made mine out of 1/4" plate I had laying around. Also, the threads are Left Handed.
