I've been experiencing some higher than normal engine temps lately and ran the SMARTY diagnostic tool, which indicated the P0483 code. Just wanted to confirm that it was my viscous fan drive that is bad and not the signal it receives from my ECM before spending the $$ on the fan clutch.

Thanks

i just got this same code.
I also have been running a little hot.

one time i restarted my truck after a few minutes, the engine revved up to 1k rpm for about 8 seconds then down to idle.

any ideas?

Wow, I just changed my fan clutch, I didn't see a code tho.

I just notice a rouring sound from in front of the radiator and found I could reach in and stop the fan with my hand while it idled.

Had a machanic check it out and found the clutch was not working on the fan and the tensioner pully was rouring (bad bearing I guess).

I didn't really notice high running temps. I think it may have been out for a while. Now that it is fixed, it does seem to take longer to warm up and runs just a little under 200 until I pull heavy.

I'm going to check the ol smarty tomorrow to see if any codes.

Now I did too have an engine idle surge and couple times. I just been waiting for something else to go wrong.

Good luck
