P0606, keeps coming up...but

While driving last week, the throttle control light came on, I started losing power or more like I couldn't gain any speed pulled over, put in park, flashed the codes and continued on. Drove about 300 miles, TC light popped on for a second and then right off. It had no effect on the truck. Took the truck in to the dealership ( 1st time in 161k ) they reflashed the computer, replaced recall parts on the front end and said all was well. Drove around hooked up my trailer started heading north to Omaha and then the check engine light comes on...code p0606. Drove about 450 miles no problems. The next day as I was driving coming to a stop, the truck was surgeing like it didn't want to stop, almost sounded like the engine or something was going to jump out of the truck. It happened a couple of times but I loaded up and drove it back to Tulsa . Drove it all the way back and only started to act funny when I was a few miles from home. Got in it this morning and the damn thing won't act the way it was doing with my mechanic in it. The engine light is still on with the above code popping up. Any ideals ???

That code is a "needs new ECU" code. The ECU failed its own internal circuit test. There is not telling what the effect on downstream modules can be.

Unfortunately, it could go into "pedestrian mode" at any time.


P0606-INTERNAL CONTROL PROCESSOR

Theory of Operation

This fault code is triggered when the internal Powertrain Control Module (PCM) diagnostics detect a read or write error internal to the module. The PCM illuminates the MIL light immediately when the diagnostic runs and fails. The PCM will turn off the MIL light immediately after the diagnostic runs and passes. This fault code can only be caused by an internal PCM problem and may prevent the engine from starting.

The tech should realize that more than likely the update caused an issue or even damaged ECM/PCM. I have fought an update back in 09 for my C&C ECM and the tech says its fine. It's been updated every time there's an available update for it, in hopes it will get rid of the surging during Regen that developed after the initial update when it was a virgin program. I should have never allowed it and was asked prior to the update if I wanted it, oh well, hindsight is always clearer. When my tech updates the ECM, he puts on a battery charger, claiming if the batteries are weak and the update is interrupted because of weak batteries it can damage the ECM.
