Need input---i started truck ,touched fuel pedal, rpms went to 3000 then to idle--no responce from pedal over 1200 rpm . No ck engine lite but used reader got

2 codes p0606 and p1689 cleared codes truck runs great. Later on identical problem. Cleared--disconnected edge comp ---happened again. Dealer says p0606 =

1555. My cost for reman ecm not including install.

You guys helped me out with my tps adjustment when dealer said replace only and i got a lot of tips over the years by reading forums. Any advice??

1999 ram 200 thousand+ stick 4x4 (daughters truck)

Well it sure doesnt look good for ya. Check all the obvious stuff to make sure your not overlooking something simple, battery connections, grounds, battery condition (1689 can be set off by low voltage condition). Also inspect the plug on the ecm make sure its secure and not partially disconnected. Good luck

Had a 1689 on my 02 about 2 1/2 years ago. Took it to Dynamic Diesel in Reno, NV when I lived there & they cleaned all the terminals & connections. The tech said that most of the time it is nothing but dirty connections. He said that as our trucks get older the connections have a tendency to get dirty. I have not had a problem since then, knock on wood, just a thought.

Low voltage got me thinking. I did notice gauge showed around 8 volts on start-up and stayed there longer than I thought it should then only went up to 12 rather than 14( as my old standby 95 does) before setteling down to 12. I am going check out alt output before I go any farther but want to fully charge batteries over night and fhen test whole system. Thanks for the responce ,will update as I know more.

Depending on how much the grid heater is drawing it is common to see that low of voltage briefly after start up. If it is acting out of the ordinary, it would be a good place to start before condemning anything. Low voltage will do goofy things to these trucks

8v is too low even with grid heaters on... .

Charged batteries overnight--this morning 12. 25 on each used meter got 12 on start --after 30 seconds slowly moved to 14. 22 no codes-- throttle responce none -no eng lite-2 same codes. Cleared codes -started truck3-5 times -no change. After clearing last time everything normal but 12 volts on start 25-30 seconds (too long??)then slowly to 14. 25- responsive throttle. My 95 -12 on start 14 within 5 seconds.
Considering swapping alternators for test, think they're the same but its snowing may wait until tomorrow. thanks again

Good batteries should be closer to 12. 6 when fully charged. If it is cold enough for snow your grid heaters will be on causing the volt meter to read low till they go out. 1689 can also be caused by a failing injection pump-dead pedal

p606-1689 update--went with easiest ,basic first. Charged batteries overnight with cables disconnected ,took to distributer where I purchased in Dec of 12and asked to carbon pile test them and they were
good. I cleaned cables , crossed fingers started truck. I then ran charging test--low output--changed alt which was a lot cheaper than ECM --and needed to be done anyway. started up --ran like it always
did. Reinstalled edge-- runs perfect--no codes-- no dead pedal--. I'm going on road test tomorrow hope all goes well and problem solved. THANKS TO ALL WHO REPLIED--YOU' RE THE BEST
