Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) p1689 and truck revs up to about 2000 rpm

I hope that someone can help me out here. When I start my 1998. 5 dodge sometimes it will rev up to 1500 - 2000 rpm's on it's own and than come back down to an idle. With the flow chart through alldata for p1689 i tested the wiring and pinpointed to and ecm. Purchased and ecm and replaced it but truck still has problem. Just replaced injector pump with rebuilt, and truck still has the problem. Double checked wiring and still checks ok. Cleaned battery cable grounds, but still I cannot figure this out. Please help if you can. Truck has edge ez with tst stacked, dd stage 3 injectors, hx 40 turbo. Tried with tst off and pump wire off, but still has problem. Also has new apps.

I had an Edge EZ cause the same problem..... I also replaced the injection pump to no avail. Try to unplug the EZ data port connector, clear codes and go for a spin. I'll bet it is fixed.



Edge did fix it for free... . you might give them a call.

I would suggest the same. The definition for the code is "No communication between the ECM and the Injection Pump Module. " I think either the edge or the tst are giving false readings.

Well so far with the edge ez upluged truck has started about 20 times ok so far. I will let everybody know what happens, thanks to all.

Just went through this, for me it was the box, (comp). Edge took very good, fast care of me. My unit is many years out of warente, and, No charge for repair & current update, or shipping.
