P1689 No Communication Between ECM and Injection Pump Module

Data link circuit failure between ECM and fuel injection pump. Low power, engine derated, or engine stops. (from 01 Service Manual)

OK, I get this code and a misfire when the truck produces more than 20 psi in boost. The engine also feels like it is trying to defuel.

Any input would help. Did I blow my VP44?:{

Could it be my K&N, the oil from the filter can damage the MAP sensor, but the MAP is bypassed because of the TST Powermax 3.

Any thoughts on what would cause the misfire would be much appreciated. The truck runs great until it exceds 20 psi, then misfire.

Any help please,

Rich

Hey yours is the opposite of mine! Mine misfires at idle and not once over 1200rpm. That same code came up on mine when it was checked at the local stealership. They told me it might run two days or two years. In my situation I am going to run it till it dies. But if I was in your position I would probably fix it or just remove any mods and let it run stock to keep it under 20psi. If that is the only time it does it then try making it stock and you can be sure of it. It is either the pump, ECM, or a bad connection is what they told me. Whatever you find out let us all know and I want to know also. dshawhan

I changed the lift pump and fuel filter. That has so far worked. I tried to make it stumble and cough, but so far, it won't. Hopfully I did not damage my Injector Pump. If I did, I will drive it until it dies.

I hope this will last, I have to drive 200 miles tommrow, will find out soon.
