I have a 2016 Ram 2500 4x4 Regular cab 8ft bed Tradesman 6.7 cummins with 27,242 miles. The last few days it seems like she doesn't have any power so I put my code reader on it and its reading P2002 code but no check engine light is illuminated. I've been reading that the DPF could be clogged so I took it for a long ride on the highway and that seems to have helped. I never get any message saying the filter is full or regen in process. I do not idle for long periods or take frequent short trips. I would like to know what my next steps should be. Do I need to take it in? Is my DPF failing?

What Ippenock said. If you don't have something you can load the truck up with, speed is good second choice. If you have insterstate highway close by, run fast 30 min to an hour out and back every couple or 3 weeks. I have different problem than you... my 2017 Ram 5500 sits a lot thanks to COVID and that I bought it to pull our RV and other trailers. I do it to keep her running well and get seals up to pressure.

It helps if there is some place to take the run to, like our favorite catfish restaurant is about 35 miles away.

Anyhoo, just a good idea to get that sucker at full temp and run it hard periodically to kerp.

Cheers, Ron

Thank you fellas. I think I will do that again. I ran it last night for like an hour on the highway. It seems to have helped some. I will invest in that alfaOBD. Where is the best place to get one?

AlfaOBD (ww.alfaobd.com) is software that runs on Android or Windows. You will also need a Bluetooth or USB OBD adapter. The recommended one is OBDLink MX or MX+.

Just a FYI. AlfaOBD will also allow you to enable features you that were options in you year but you may not have. Some examples
1. switchable Day time running lights
2 Daytime running lights somewhere besides high beams
3 fog lights staying on with high beams
4. front windows down with double push of unlock button
5. different tpms set points or change operation to tpis.

That is just to wet your appetite. There is more. Do some searching for alfaobd on this site, ramforum and cumminsforum.

I recommend everything mentioned so far, but don't underestimate the value of the hard drive at a regular interval, it will get better on it's own too. I recognize yours has low miles like mine, so get the Alfa, BT, etc, but, I believe you can get there with some regular robust driving. Other benefits besides cleaner DPF, transmission, axles, xfer x case, turbo, EB, etc like it too. Does fluids good to get up to operating temps and running there a while.

Just my humble opinion is all.

Cheers, Ron

Be patient when making changes. Don't make more than a couple changes at one time. Some things my take a couple days to take effect, especially ones that change the EVIC displays.
