Just wanted to post my experience as it seems different then most.

My 04. 5 listed in my sig was showing a P2149. Truck lost all power and was only running on 3 cylinders. No other codes present. Started with a wire harness inspection for any wear or rodent damage. Nothing present. We then pulled the valve cover and inspected/tested the Injector harness that connects from the 3 plugs outside the valve cover then to each injector. Ohm tested fine.

Then Ohm tested each injector. Injectors 1,2,3,5,6 all tested . 3ohm. Injector 4 tested 0 ohm. We only could assume with all injectors testing the same and the odd ball being #4, that is where we should start. Most would say that a bad injector shows a high ohm reading above 1ohm. This is true for most cases. In my case it was not. The ECM was shutting down the 2nd bank(4,5,6) so that the faulty injector would not damage the ECM.

I sourced a Bosch Re-man Stock Injector. Replaced #4 Injector and put things back together. Fired the truck up and it runs smooth as new. Cleared the 2149 and all is well.

Have to thank my Friend and local Cummins Tech for diag and replacing the injector. :D

Lyod, Lmills was also a great help! :-laf

A couple hundred generic OBDII codes. I really do wish we had access to the trouble shooting trees for the codes.

Congrats on getting yours figured out. Good thread title, should show up for people searching for it.

I'm having the same issues tonight to troubleshoot. I also have P0204 which is open injector #4. When whatever happened, it feels like half an engine running now. Ran super before and I got over 20 mpgs calculated on the long trip I just drove. I hope to solve quick. Is it safe to drive(not hurt engine) on three if I can't fix and need to go ten miles to the Dodge *******? It's mainly downhill slightly. Thanks, Herb

Well it sounds like it shuts down the bank of three so your running on 3 cyl

Was reading your other thread also, you may be able to locate and replace just the solenoid on #4 injector...I would contact Todd/TCDiesel on this forum, he may be a resource for the solenoid, and would also be able to tell you if that would be a suitable fix. I have never tried separating a solenoid from a CR injector, I'm sure it requires some finesse.
