P2201 Question. About three weeks ago I had a check engine light come on and before I could get home I had started the truck more than three times and it disappeared. Well, it's baaaaak! This is on my 2014 3500. Tried using my code reader I bought in 2004 and that would not read the code. Bought a new one and the P2201 showed up, indicating twice. Checking this forum it appears one other person (with a 2013) asked a question about this code and mentioned it being an upstream nox sensor. If that is what it might be, where is it located. I only have 40K on this truck so a little surprised it would throw this code. Recently drove it pretty hard on a camping trip too. Also, would anyone know if this is a problem sensor? Seems the person with the 2013 replaced the sensor and the code came back again.

Check out this guy, if you haven't ever watched his videos he's pretty knowledgeable. Explains things in layman's terms for us simpletons.

Sometimes, adding fresh DEF will.make it go away on my 2013. It re-runs its diagnostics for DEF and NOx after it senses a new DEF level

I can only recommend going to a dealer and do at least a proper diagnosis with wiTech first.

The same time the dealer can check for any applicable updates to your vehicle.

...or you just start throwing parts at it, we see that a lot. :D
Usually people ask here after they shot with the parts gun.

Thanks for the video reference JR. In response to other comments I now recall I recently added new DEF. I buy from a company that supplies the county vehicles and many more locals in the foothills community. So I don't suspect it as a problem but don't rule it out either. I have a couple more recalls to get done and if I can find time I will go to the dealer soon to check this out. Looks like a simple fix if it's the module and something I can do but don't want to just throw parts at it as mentioned. One TDR member changed one and it still threw the code. I also don't own test equipment for the DEF nor do I know how to change that out so maybe getting it tested at the same time will be something to do. Appreciate y'all for the help on this matter.

I'm not advocating throwing parts at it just giving a reference point of where it's located per the initial post. According to Todd alot of these codes are communication related and requires some massaging of modules to warm back up to each other. Unfortunately most dealerships throw parts at the problem regardless. And to a point I understand why. They would just assume not have an unhappy customer standing in front of them a few days later when the problem resurfaces.

JR I have lost count on how many owners simply dielectric their connections on the vehicle, it resolved the ghost codes that randomly appear...
I have no hope in most Dealerships…. their are some good tech that have their hands in the air at times. Way to many running things in the background to control.
I'm no longer surprised at owners discuss at their vehicle when they put trust in a Dealer system.

No this does not apply to every Dealer or Situation.

Mike has a 2014 Both NOx sensors are before the DEF injector, Plus you can run 100% DW and it has no bearing on the NOx sensors. filling the tank full with DEF resetting the calibrations seems odd to Me on 2013-15.

Since I have dielectric and use it frequently I will try that. Good idea and thanks for that. I have not erased the code yet but will do so after trying the grease fix. Good to know it's location and that it's before the DEF injector.

Got under the truck yesterday and cannot find the sensor shown in the video. I see one that looks like the unit he replaced on the exhaust pipe in front where it enters the first large canister. But that wire goes into a connector with multiple wires and no box cover on the frame rail. Also my wires are on the inside of the frame. Maybe a difference in a Canada build and Mexico? Mine is Henco In Mehico. Also mine is a Sept. 2013 build even though it's a 2014 so maybe a carry over set of wires. I can email David at Motor City but I'm thinking someone here might know and also someone here might be watching to make notes on the location.

Mike I think I gave you some dated info looking at that videos age. Just looked at mine and it appears it is up on the elbow of the turbo. Module wiring is wrapped in insulated loom that looks like foil and is mounted to the block just behind the oil filter. The sensor can be seen looking from the engine compartment down, once you start tracing the wire harness you can see the module looking through the wheel well. I wonder if the changes of sensor location was made during the recall? I'm not sure but sorry for the bad info.

My downstream NOX is just aft of SCR?

Thanks again. Certainly could have been a change with the recall. Just got a check engine light on the 2004.5. Going to check it now and see if I can at least drive one of the trucks. Need to pick up a new motor for my larger compressor. Burned out after 30 years so can't complain too much but seems as they say, when it rains it snows...or something like that.

You guys are correct, Mix years up ^&(* , My 2008 Does Not have it Because its not a DEF Truck...On another plus note its very forgiving on 2013 Plus I checked my Urea level and it was 8% Urea 92% DW its been like that for months.
