About 4 weeks ago at around 21. 5k miles I popped two P2262 codes which I cleared with the scanner, oddly happened at the exact same stop sign while leaving work.

A week later it threw two P2A00 codes for the O2 sensors.

Took it in and of course since I had reset the P2262's they did nothing for that but for the P2A00's they replaced the O2 sensors, did the wrap and flashed it which was the first time since I took delivery in Jan 08.

Well yesterday the turbo went nuts and the exhaust brake randomly would stick on during acceleration but once up to speed stayed well for the 75 mile cruise home at 65mph.

CIL never came on as bad as it acted but when I got home I hooked up the scanner and it had logged the P2262 (expected), used the truck last night and again this morning still no CIL's.

Went back out a little while ago to get the freeze frame data on the code and the P2262 was gone !

So..... was there a change with the latest flashes to purposely hide the CIL's and to auto clear after 2 or 3 restarts ?

I run 75 miles a day with it about 90% hway cruise and use the exhaust brake every startup.

I'm sure it probably needs the desoot procedure but any other suggestions.

I understood they were going to change the logic to ignore the P2262 if it occurred in the first couple of minutes of the drive cycle. Looks like that is what may have happened.

Well this morning the EBrake was working crappy all the way to work, (37 miles) you could hear it cut in but I was only getting about 50% braking out of it and it wasn't holding to the end like it used to. As soon as I got to work I hooked up the scanner and as expected there was a P2262 code but once again no CIL.

Drove back home with one quick stop near the house and the brake continued to work iffy and once in a passing situation there was a turbo lag and sort of a clunk when it finally reacted. Soon as I got home I plugged in the scanner and there was no codes at all !

This thing has to be auto clearing after a restart.

Made an appt for service on Monday morning. #@$%!

The 2262 needs to be in the truck for the dealer to properly run the new diagnostic.

I just sat down and re-read the scanner's owners manual and I think I've found the answer to the disappearing codes and lack of a CEL.

When a Type "B" DTC is found on the first trip the following events take place (MIL is the Malfunction Indicator Lamp or Check Engine Light)

The computer sets a Pending DTC, but the MIL is not ordered "ON", (Freeze frame data may or may not be saved at this time depending on the manufacturer). The Pending DTC is saved in the computers memory for later retrieval.

If the failure is found on the second consecutive trip the MIL is ordered "ON". Freeze frame date is saved in the computers memory.

If the failure is NOT FOUND on the second trip, the pending DTC is erased from the computer's memory.

So yesterday it logged a code while driving to work, but then I started once to go home and stopped at the store and started the engine a 2nd time without an issue so the code was gone by the time I got home.

Well the truck went in Monday morning. Still no CEL on, but went for a test drive with one of the techs (he owns a 99 3500 diesel) and after some discussion I thought we were on the same page as to it most likely needing the turbo tapped and flushed.

Tuesday afternoon the dealer called to say the truck was ready but it didn't pop a CEL or code that they could see so they did nothing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It took them two days to do nothing, I paid for a rental during that time and got a truck back that I'm sure will act up again.

To say I'm furious right now would be an understatement. Really unfortunate because the truck buying experience at this dealer was excellant but now their service department has ruined them in my eyes.

I'll run it till a code comes up or the turbo stays stuck in the brake position and take it to a different dealer.

Update - two weeks ago at just over 25k the turbo started acting up again and this time logged two P2262 codes and turned the CEL on.

I made an appointment at a different dealer last Thursday and on Friday morning they called and said they were going to replace the turbo. :)

Picked the truck up last night, new turbo installed and it appears according to the work order that they flashed both the ECM and PCM per TSB# 09-002-009 Rev A.

Only drove it a few miles so far but expect now with the latest flashes, new O2 sensors and the wrap done in August I should be good to go.
