I've got a fault code after the voltage dropped to 8v while driving the other day. Search has not revealed a definitive answer as to whether this is an alternator problem, or a battery issue. The batteries are OEM from 03, as well as the alternator. My Smarty says that it is a voltage charging problem.

What is the consensus to remedy this problem? Obviously the batteries will soon need to be replaced. I do have two Optima reds on order, but will not arrive until next week.

Not to insult your intelligence but how corroded are the battery terminals? Also check the cables them selves from the alternator to the batteries

Check the voltage coming out of the alternator. Should be something between 13v and 15v. My guess is a blown voltage regulator.

JApol's right - check the battery terminals too.
