P2509 and not charging

My 2009 2500 stopped charging, throwing the “lightning” light on the dash, as well as “check gauges”. Nothing I have read about P2509 (which I have) indicates that it would affect the alternator. I put a new alternator on, same problem. If I manage to correct the P2509 issue, should my charging system start working?

Have you checked all your wiring connections? Clean and tighten battery terminals, crossover cable and grounds for corrosion also. Loose and corroded cables can cause big headaches! Check those things and then see what happens. Have you confirmed that alternator is putting out voltage? Time to get multi-meter out and start checking voltages at different locations. Fixed! One thing I read insisted that it was a battery problem. So I took all the wires loose from the battery cable ends, and wire brushed and cleaned and sprayed protector on all of the connections. My plan was to then head to the auto parts to have the batteries load checked. But when I started it up, viola- everything working as normal.
