Does anyone out there know anything about the P7100 Injection Pump? I just had a rebuilt one installed and the truck ran great for a few days then all of the sudden I lost power. By that I mean initially boost pressure would jump up immediately and the old girl would belch out black smoke and go like a bat out of hell. Now boost builds slowly, no black smoke and no get up and go. How can I check the diaphragm on the pump to see if it is ruptured? I would presume that one could put some pressure on it and do a drop test.

As I am a new member and unaware how one closes out a request for information let me post this:

All checks of a leak showed none. I then decided to check the turbo itself. Having had the turbo rebuilt some time ago I did't suspect the obvious, that IT could be my problem. In examining the rotor at the air compression side I noticed a LOT of up and down play. I believe this excessive play is preventing the turbo from spooling up as it should. If you don't get enough boost to the Aneroid it won't give you any more fuel. I purchased a new HX35 today and will install tomorrow. I think this will solve the problem, besides as of today I am 500 miles short of a million on the old one I guess it's about time to buy a new one, you think??

It's easy to pull the AFC off the pump, plug the wastegate fitting and apply air to the input line. That should tell you if the diagragm is working properly. Might also want to make sure your wastegate isn't stuck open as that would cause you to bleed boost and rob your power.

Remove the AFC. Cover the hole to keep dirt out and oil in. Go for a test drive. It should smoke like a forest fire and haul butt. If it does then you have an AFC problem.

I've leak checked the line in question using a soap/water mixture. It doesn't show leakage but decided to replace it anyway as my engine as of today is about 2000 miles short of 1,000,000 miles. I've got a Cummins Dealer trying to find the tube as it is an odd ball size and they don't show it in stock anywhere. Thanks for the reply.
