P7100 Pump numbers, how to determine HP rating

I'm looking at purchasing a Pump they said is off a 96 Dodge Cummins, but they don't know if it was a 5spd or auto.

The numbers on the pump are;

RQV 400 1250PA954-3K
CDC No. 392 1776

Can anyone tell if these numbers are for the 215hp 5spd or the 180hp auto.

That is a 180hp pump. You can tell from the governor # 400 1250 is the pump rpm range. The 215 pumps are 400 1400

were are these numbers located? all I see on mine are on a "mopar" tag... but the numbers dont follow the same pattern that was mentioned ubove... the ones the tag are P(R?)4798548 and below that is M01784. Jim

I have one more question on the pumps; it has to do with timing them.

Now if I purchased a 180hp pump and installed it on a 215hp engine what timing do I use, the one for my CPL# of my engine or do I need the CPL# off the 180hp engine and use its timing.

I’m not familiar with diesel timing procedures (how the pump works) but I’m going to learn from the best, you guys and gals out there.

Jim, it's on the left side of the pump about in the middle of the one i purchased, haven't looked at the one on my truck.

Driver's side of the pump when mounted on the engine.

OK, I think that I finally have my answer. See my question on topic:

I looked for the numbers that Piers said determines which pump is installed and found the series 400 1250 on the backside of the pump closest to the firewall. I could not find those numbers anywhere on the side of the pump however. If that meens that I have the 180 pump installed then I also have the right plate.

See if you have the dataplate and find the ESN number on it from the front case. Go to Cummins Quick Server and create a limited owner account (free). Enter the ESN, get the pump data etc.

That might have been true 17 years ago when this thread started, but after all these years any number of pumps could have been installed on a 12 valve. I have an engine out of a '96 but still have the same p-pump that came on the truck when it was new.

The RQV number is only the identifier for the AFC, you need the other tag that's usually hidden behind your throttle linkage on the drivers side of the pump. My comment above is only if the p-pump/engine combo is original and know to be so. Easy there sunshine.
