I have an interesting set of conditions on my 95 Ram 3/4 ton I got this truck used with 198,668 miles on it . It did not run well when I got

it I believe it was retarded but when I checked the timing it was right on. I was told by a pump rebuilder that

if the pump was tired that could happen he said to try and advance the timing and see if it would improve the

way it runs. I did and it ran much better it felt normal. I drove it for a month and than decided to put a rebuilt

pump on it. Here is the puzzle I put the new pump in when I had it built I ask to have it 13 degrees advanced

so I put it in right on TDC. It would not even start it was retarded again so I started advancing it again and it

started, so I advanced it some more I finally advanced it to were it runs good. It is about 2" advanced from TDC

on the cir. of the balancer. Anybody got any ideas what I got going on. Yes I made sure I had TDC once by

the cam plug and by running the piston up against the valve both ways and marking the balancer

Any ideas would be great it runs good as is but I would like to know why it is the way it is

Thanks in advance for any ideas

Measuring the amount of advance by inches on the damper doesn't do any good. Find the amount of lift needed on the model of injector pump you have for the degree of injection you want. Measure that lift with a dial indicator. Forget the pump timing pin.

I used degree wheel I use on gas motors when putting in a cam and degree it in

GAmes does it take a special dial indicator set to do that or can it be done with the same one I use for cams
and where do I find the spec. I need is it in the article you indicated

Thank you for all the help I am trying the learn about this Cummins they are different than gas motors but I am learning
