Check out my theory here. Nearly all the driving of my truck involves using just the top half of the throttle pedal. The bottom half adds more power but not all that much. While towing the bottom half is out of use because EGT's exceed 1300*.

If I slide the fuel plate back will I increase useable throttle pedal travel (making it easier to drive smoothly) without decreasing useable power?

If I wasn't an unemployed contractor I'd be looking into compounds and inline exhaust brakes...

The GSK has changed how the pedal travel works. If the pedal is touchy make sure you have the correct return spring and if so adjust the gsk to make it more user friendly. Any way you look at it your turbo is too small for your fueling.

If it is just not wanting to control how much pedal travel you use build a stop.

I don't have a GSK but my truck drives a little smoother with the plate not in the full forward position. Not having to drive by pyrometer is a bonus.

Moving the plate is easy to try so give it a try and let us know what you think.

I have played with "sliding the plate" and you're not gonna like it slide back. The peddle travel should remain the same unless there is a problem. The power decrease will suck. Slide the plate in 10 thou increments back. By the time you get to 40 thou, the power decrease will be noticeable, in my experience. EGT will decrease, but the power loss...

If you are interested in "usable pedal travel" and you can't use half of the travel because of too much fueling than you should try reducing your max fueling. Start by sliding the plate back and see how you like it, if at all. The cheapest thing to do is to see for yourself.

Also, when I have to lift my foot because EGT's are too high too fast isn't that a power loss? Ditto on work and the Twin turbos.

First as Bob said you need a larger turbo, or a small set of twins, Slide the plate towards the firewall about 2/3 of the way, and back off the starwheel. That will increase your usable throttle. You could also increase the timing to 17*-19*, but the only real help you will get is with a lot more air.

I'll get around to sliding the plate back and see what happens. Heading to El Toro this weekend to play with some cars, guess I should move the plate and use that trip as a test drive.
