Well recieved my first issue of the Register the other day and think the first item will be the exuast brake. Has anyone used the "pacbrake" and what are your opinions?
Does anyone have better suggestions?
I called Pacbrake and the price was $680. 00
seemed reasonable.
Secondly, The "Blue Chip" Premuim EGT/boost + fueling control. $1,299. 00
1)Does this box distort the milage computers accuracy?
I really do not want to screw-up the onboard fuel management functions. What I do want to do is stop the "De-fueling" and allow the motor to produce all the power it can without distorting the data for the VP44 reports. From what I have read here there are two ways to increase the output of the 5. 9,
Change injectors which allows more fuel per shot(lower pressure/increased volume?) OR
Install black box to increase duration of pulse to VP44 which increases duration of fuel shot, but this is not the amount of fuel the computer thinks it delivered so milage reports are erroneous.
Now all that said does the "stock" ECM actually "De-fuel" or Restrict boost to limit output or curb emmissions? If yes how and what do I do to beat it? E-mail me!
Rich

I would deffinately recommend TST. I used all his performance parts on my '95. I will be using his box later on my '01. If you call or e-mail they will impress you. #ad

I use a PacBrake on my truck and I love it. Call Bill K. . he can get a hold of the new pacbrake that is dipped in Nitrite.

Right now as we speak I am having a Jacobs brake installed on my truck. I checked at the Cummins dealer for name brand and price. They use the Jacobs brake he told me it was the same brake that Mopar puts on. I went to my dealer and found out that he would give me a discount on the brake and the labor because I bought the truck there. The part and installation cost $725. after the disc. The best part is that since I am getting the Mopar and they are installing it, it will be covered under the same warranty as my truck. 36 mo or 36,000. I am happy. On Monday I can let you know how I like it.

Great White, unforetunately for you changing injectors or installing any of the boxes available will cause your mileage display to read erroniously. There's two types of defueling in the stock ECM, one is if boost goes over 20 psi (which it shouldn't with the stock ECM output - but can if you change injectors or install a box) and the second one is at 2700 rpm the ECM begins to defuel. I also have been using TST's products for a couple of years now (was one of the first to buy a Powermax, first version) and have been extremely happy with both the results and the service I have gotten from TST. Their boxes (and many others but not all of them) take care of the defueling at boost levels above 20 psi. Their street box however does not do anything about the defueling at 2700 rpm. The reason for that is the duty cycle of the solenoid in the VP44 - if you defeat the defueling at 2700 rpm you will go beyond the recommended duty cycle of the solenoid and are risking pump problems. Some of us have boxes that do eliminate this defuel point but are taking a risk of loosing an injection pump (I'm one of those people). Good luck with your search - there are many great products out there for cranking up your truck, but as I said above all of them will affect the mileage display of your trip computer (right now - Marco is working on modified ECM's and those would read out correctly I would think). You should also be aware that with the 6 speed you won't be able to crank the truck up much without slipping your clutch, the 5 speed clutches were stronger stock. Search through the old posts here in the 24v section and the Products section and research your choices heavily before purchasing, going to an upgraded clutch is a big step and where things start to get a bit expensive. JMHO

I have a PacBrake on my 1994 2500 and Sue has one on her 2001 2500. My brake is still set for 30 pounds, but after driving Sue's truck I want to upgrade my brake and exhaust springs to 60 pounds this summer. Both of our PacBrakes work well and, except for a seal problem on mine that PacBrake fixed under warranty, they have given no trouble.

The PacBrake is well worth the money if you drive a loaded truck in mountains.

Thanks to all! I have been following the performance issues here for last couple of years.

Marco, Hey Marco, any progress yet?

I am aware of the clutch issues and plan on changing that(I'll slip it first, THEN I will know power is really there!)
Sounds like presently no one is offering methods of improving the stock ECM's performance without affecting the accuracy of the onboard computer. So this leaves going to PROPANE... . Bullydog and others have successfully used this method? I realize that propane is a pain in the A$$ but I really only want the power for pulling hills ect.

Great White...

I picked up my truck from the dealer on Friday May 11th. The Jacobs brake was installed, andf I was on my way to Harrisburg pulling an enclosed motorcycle trailer with a full dressed Harley and a few hundred pounds of equipment. I went about 400 miles through the Pa. mountains mostly two lanes. I love the brake. As I originally said because it is a Mopar part and the dealer installed it, it is warranted the dame as the truck. 100,000 or 5 years for the main brake and 3 years or 36,000 for the wireing and other moving parts. Total cost was less than $800. 00. As I said in my first thread the dealer gave me a special price because I bought the truck there. I love it and I am happy.

Great White try the Classified ads here on the TDR site !There is a man that sells Pac Brakes to TDR members at a great discount, I think the name is Ed Purcell. Give it a try can't hurt.

Great White, Marco probably didnt hear you, He is in ITALY! You gonna have to SHOUT (and there is a posting on wwd2's site about the modified ECM's: http://pub50. ezboard.com/fwwcd2discountsitefrm17. showMessage?topicID=7. topic ). Its not avail yet but we all waiting with the pennies building up. I have the e-brake also, and I understand the Pac is a higher pressure (more slowing power). Almost any of the brakes are liked by someone and I will not infulance you to go to any of them as we all have different opinions on it (like normal). I like mine and if wired to the ECm they all work in cruise. It sure is nice to use and have for the "extra" margin and savings on the pads/shoes.
