I have a PacBrake exhaust brake on my 00 with an ATS trans and Command lock controller. The exhaust brake only works intermittantly with no pattern as to when it will or will not work. Any suggestions as to where to start looking? I love it when it actually functions!

I will be checking all the electrical connections. I was not sure if anyone had other problems i should look for while im at it. Thanks!

How long have you had it? I have a 98. 5 and installed one in 99. Few years back it starter acting up. Sometimes it wouldn't come on and sometimes when it did it wouldn't go off. I took apart the actuator where the vacume hoses connect. There is a small piston in there that slides back and forth when vacume is applied or shut off. Mine had what looked like soot on it that was keeping it from sliding back and forth. Cleaned it, put it back together and problem solved. If you go this route make sure you don't damage the serptine gasket.

i've had that problem too. Ed, I have the same setup as you with ATS controller. Sometimes my EB will engage, but will not disengage unless i either slow down below TC lockup speed or I shut off the ATS commander. I think I will look at the grounds on the commander and make sure it is clean.

Mine would not release unless you put it in neutral when the engine was hot. . After a lot of frustration and help from Pac Brake the problem was that people over torque the two bolts that hold it to the down pipe. ( I won't mention names ) It causes the casting to warp and the butterfly sticks. Follow torque specs!!!!!!!

If it works part of the time, chances it's not an electrical problem. Check all air hose connection. You may have an air leak. Also look at the air filter.

Haven't seen a post on whether you solved your intermitten problem with brake. I remembered about another place you might look to solve your problem. There is an acutator switch behind the throttle pedal that may be bad or loose. It lets the controller know when to apply vacume as you let up on the pedal.

Check the ground. Make sure its clean and dab a little dielectric grease on the connections.

I had a similar problem with my 6-speed manul '02. If the wipers arenot working as well then I would check your grounds. I ran a completely separate wire from the ground of one of the batteries onto the switch manifold solenoid that goes on the air horn. I put the ring between the ring from the switch and the switch housing. Basically air horn >> ground wire from the solenoid >> new wire from battery ground >> solenoid housing. After doing this I have never had the brake start and stop.

Check all of the grounds run a few extra and clean all of the connections. Good idea to check the vacuum connections as well.
Good luck and let us know.
