Hell'o everyone,

Hope someone out there can give Me some input on My problem here.

I am an owner of a "93" CTD with a Pac/Brake mounted on same.

This unit was installed in 1996 of which good operation was experienced until two years ago.

Last year I was driving to visit a fellow TDR member Joe George in Eureka Ca. when the Pac/Brake failed to release in the middle of Hwy 101, Resulting in a cloud of black smoke & forcing Me to pull off the highway.

Getting out of the truck I raised the hood and manually pushed back the linkage on the Pac/Brake to release it. I had turned off the switch before this.

On getting to Joe's home He removed the electronic solenoid slide valve , cleaned & reinstalled it and this seemed to remedy the cause of the brake hang up.

This Year I had this same problem. As I mostly use this hauling My 5th wheel trailer, this has repeated too frequently.

I "E" mailed the office of Pac/Brake & they sent Me a possible

list of problems to check. I had told them that I did not leave the

brake on all the time, only used when towing.

They advised Me that My problem might be from infrequent use

& I was advised to use it all the time, with or without My trailer.

I had the whole unit replaced by a Pac/Brake dealer in this area, along with a new throttle pedal brake switch.

A short time after I had a repeat of this problem.

I had the vacuum pump checked and the brake booster replaced.

This worked good for awhile, but this week it has ceased to release when driving local.

This truck has 106,000 miles on it and sits for sometimes two weeks without being used. 90% of the accumulated mileage is with the trailer over 10 years now. The linkage has been lubed regularly.

Any information of the fix found on this type of failure would be

appreciated by the membership out there. I seem to be one of two people who have had this trouble according to this Pac/Brake

installer. There seems to be a vacuum problem here somewhere.

Thanking You for any input You can render Me.
