I was fueling up the other day, and a powerstroke was fuelilng also. I pulled in after he did, with my e-brake on. We had a cordial chat, then he admonished me not to use my e-brake "except when I really need it" as the backpressure is bad for the engine and would mess up the valves. Is this true? I've had the brake for about 1000 miles now and I really like it; use it all the time... .

Use any time you want , you will want to clean the AIT as it gets soot on it back on the drivers side last one next fire wall remove wire and use 13/16 socket torque is ten ft pounds clean with carb or brake cleaner . Clean about ten thousand miles Ron in LOUISVILLE KYOo.

I may very well be wrong on this but I think I recall somewhere that the powerstroke uses hydraulic lifters and that the back pressure of an exhaust break can cause a change in the amount of lash in the valve train hence being hard on the valvetrain. Our engines have solid lifters and we have to adjust the lash manually therefore it isn't a problem.
