Ordered a pac break from some place the wholesale place referred me for my '04. Showed up 2 days later but when I went to install it found out that she sent it a half inch to big and it won't fit. Now I've been calling the place to see what next, but no answer and am just leaving messages.

Do you:

A. make them send you the right size and send the one you have back?

or

B. see if you can swing a deal on a 4" exhaust system??? Or will that even fix the problem I have? And, if it will, which one do you try to get?

So the diameter on the pac brake is too big?

Correct... It seems the downstream side is a half inch bigger in diameter than the piece I am replacing.

It looks like I only have a 3. 5" system and the pacbrake is 4". I never told her what size I had just that I have an '04. I thought I had a 4" but at that point in the system I get 3. 5"

If I were to switch to an aftermarket system from the pacbrake back would there be any bennies?? or am I wasting $$

BTW I do NOT have a CAT

Yeah it is elbow shaped. Just like the factory cast iorn piece it is replacing just a half inch bigger in diatmeter on the downstream side

It appears it made for a 4inch down pipe, rather than a 3. 5. I think in the long run you better to get an exhaust adapter than to down sized the elbow. I believe you got a later model exhaust elbow. when the exhaust was increased all the way to the turbo.

You just need a elbow from a 04. 5 or 05 is what your describing. Ask if any members have one or buy from dealer or maybe e/bay. Don't think its very exspensive. Truck will breath a little better with a 4 inch anyway. Have one on my 03 bought from Banks before the 04. 5 and up came out.

you got a brake for an '04. 5. They went to a full 4" system with them. I would keep the one they sent and do the exhaust or at least a 4" downpipe, then it will be easier to reduce it to 3. 5" if you can't swing a whole new system.

If you get the 04. 5 downpipe (4"), the MBRP cat eliminator pipe, and MBRP muffler you will have a true 4" system. It will be a very efficient system and shound VERY GOOD, but not too loud.

I did the conversion a year or so ago with my early 04 turck (same exhaust setup as yours) and have been very pleased.

You have an 04 and they sent you the exhaust brake kit for an 04. 5 and up... .

If you got the PXRB kit... . the kit for the 04. 5 and up is C44045 and the correct kit for your truck... ... should be C44030..... Look at the box.....

I don't suggest that you change your exhaust however.....

If you have the kit..... C44045 and wish to exchange it for the correct kit of C44030 we can help you... . We didn't sell you the kit and our people do answer the phone... We don't have a machine... ... just real people..... let us know... ... We're on the West Coast 800. 445. 4696 from M-F 8-5..... Talk to Jack. . I won't be in the office for another 4 hours this morning so if you call before 12 my time today no one will have a clue what your talking about.....

Let us know..... its a shame you purchased from someone who doesn't want to help... BTW - if you didn't purchase the PXRB kit... . your buying old inventory as those kits have been gone for months and are no longer in production..... Those numbers would be C14030 for your truck and C14045 for the newer trucks... .

I think I have 1 used full warranty C14030 change out kit available at a discounted price if you have an interest... .

In either case we'll try and help... .

I would keep the one you have and and get a new down pipe or exhaust. When I Ordered all my stuff from Industrail Injection, I had them send me a 04. 5 cast elbow down piece to get rid of tha bottle neck 4 to 03. 5 inch crap. I'm sure you already know this, but the motor is just a compressor, the more air you can move in and out the more efficiant it is/longer life IMO... :D

Just curious why that suggestion. Sounds like you are in the business of selling stuff... so why would it be better I not buy more???

Honest question not looking for a fire storm.

I did the same thing ,works great, sounds great, dropped my EGT's for towing a very noticable amount. :)

I own several trucks... . for us they are work trucks... . several with over 250K miles on the clock... I personally believe that the engine and drive train was designed as a system by very qualified engineers... ... I don't change my trucks except for what you see listed in my profile... . I need every one to go to 450 to 500K before we trade... .

With that in mind we don't turn up the HP, or do other mods that might in our thought shorten the life designed into this truck by Dodge and Cummins... . I personally will trade up to 1 or 2 of the new 5500's when they are available next spring..... to get larger engines, transmissions, and working ability... .

If you've seen some of my posts..... my 04 pulls a trailer rated at 24K, it often has 20 to 22K on it... . and this truck has never seen a tank full of fuel with out the trailer... So understanding the way we use the truck..... and that we change oil every 7500 to 8500 miles..... we stretch every penny out of them..... this truck now has 211K miles...

Because I need them to go the distance... . we just look at it differently..... I can respect those who wish to turn up the HP and have fun with their truck... Mine just work everyday with several different drivers... . its just easier to keep them bullet proof when they are stock... ... .

I did however offer to trade you out..... to help you... . because your pacbrake distributor won't return your calls... . I did that because that's not the way I want to be treated..... nor the way I think any customer should be treated... ... and I didn't make the profit on the sale to begin with... . and that's because I know that's the way PacBrake would want you to be treated.....

Hope this helps you understand our point.....

Thanks for the reply. I too use mine solely to tow and count on it to pay the bills (hence the name money maker). I don't have any performance upgrades either but am considering the the exhaust since I might get away from that huge muffler and make room for a larger compressor tank.

I do appreciate the offer and will deffinatley let you know if I do go that route.

Thanks

Brad
