PSSSST Sound When Turning Off Engine

Don't forget to recheck the clamp between the turbo and the exhuast brake at about 200 miles or so... once you've done this its good for almost forever... . Also its a good thing to run your fingers around the back of this clamp when the engine is cold to make sure its on correctly.....

Jim,

Thanks for the heads up on the clamp. I checked it last night and it was pretty loose.

One question, does Pacific Clutch sell that synthetic PacBrake oil? I could not find the web site.

The brake is very nice and your customer service was outstanding, thanks again.

Where did you install the compressor? Is there more than one option for the compressor location? Do you manually use the switch every time you want the pacbrake to engage (like on a downgrade) and then turn it off before you accelerate, or is there some ECM control of the pacbrake?? TIA.

Pacbrake recommends you leave it on all the time. On my 04 it's controlled by the ECM. I must have missed it elsewhere but it's also activated while cruise control is active when going down hill and exceed the set speed.

C. Fish,

The compressor is designed to be mounted just in front of the airhorn/intake. I believe the reason is to minimize noise and/or vibration as opposed to mounting it on the vehicle frame or fenderwell. Mine is mounted where they directed, I figured they know more about it than me.

The airtank mounting is the variable. I've seen a couple of them that are downright "hacked" and I wanted a quality install. I found some space in front of the left fender splash shield, on the fog light bracket, and that's where mine is mounted. It's a good, solid, mount, is hidden from view, and is protected from the environment pretty well.

CHinton is right, the brake is designed to be left on, as the ECM controls when it applies. That's why I didn't feel the need for a shifter mounted switch, as I tow a trailer 95 percent of the time and plan to use the brake that same amount.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Pacific Clutch and Brake was a great place to get my PacBrake (I have no connection to them but am certainly a satisfied customer).

Thanks for the answers guys--so I guess that means the pxrb will work fine on my 05 with the g56. I am also now curious where/how the pacbrake connects to the ECM?

The switch plugs into the ECM indicating your desire to use the exhaust brake and the valve controlling air pressure to the brake plugs into the ECM to actually control it.

CFish,

The PacBrake connects to the ECM with a couple of pins that plug into the connector on the side of the engine. It's quite simple, and well illustrated, and you can view an installation manual here:

It sounds like you're interested in this, if you're anywhere near Albuquerque, I'll let you drive mine!

flyairam, thanks for the offer of the test drive, but it would take me at least 18 hours to drive to albuquerque-- I am curious if there are ANY negative issues associated with it, but it seems as if everyone is very satsified with their pxrb. I will look at the install manual, and hopefully acquire one within the next month or so. I'll let you guys know how my install goes. Thanks again

I've had the new pacbrake for a few months and love it. My wife prefers to drive the truck because of it! I have been doing a lot of mountian pulling; up to 18000 lbs tri axle trailer weight, and unless someone does something stupid in front of me, I rarely have to touch the brakes. It was a very worthwhile investment.

I have been considering an exhaust brake for a while now and not sure which one to get. Seems like everybody likes the Pacbrake PRXB. Only one question - does it effect the vehicle warranty?

Thanks, Mike In Fla. '06 megacab, 48RE

I have a PacBrake and would not ever tow again with out one.

The only time I turn it off is when it is icy/slick as it will make you do unintended "doughnuts" in a heart beat.

I lubricate the shaft with spray-on TRIFLO found in highend bicycle shops. Best lubricant I have found. It is spendy but worth it. :)
