Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Pacbrake c14000 a&t on '96 2500

Engine brake works sluggish and intermittent.
I pulled the two hoses from the solenoid.
Pulled vacuum on the hose from the bottom of the vacuum canister. Vacuum retracted the shaft, and then it held vacuum.
Attached vacuum to the top of the canister. Vacuum extended the shaft, but would not hold vacuum.

I called pacbeake for help. The tech asked me to plug both hoses and try moving the shaft in and out. Should have been very difficult to move the shaft.
The shaft moved easily in one direction but held firm in the other.

Tech said the vacuum canister was worn out and needed replaced. $170 ish.

Anyonse else done this?

I replaced mine a couple of months ago,it was not that hard as I removed the brake to change out the cylinder.You might want to mark the position of the brake to turbo conection before removing it so your exhaust won't rub after puting it back together like mine did till I repositioned it

The canister came in last week, and i did the r&r today. Not bad.

Tested the replacement side by side with the old one, the old ones seal leaks badly.

How's the performance now?

Solid stopping performance now, engages and disengages quick.

Part of the performance is determined by the vacuum switch, and the vacuum source. Those are working fine on my truck.
