I just made an interesting discovery - there's a guy a few miles away from where I'm living for the winter who buys beat up 1st and 2nd gen CTDs and parts them out. He's got an '01 automatic in the yard right now with a Pacbrake on it, and there's a chance I could get it pretty cheap. Does anyone know what's involved with switching a unit like that (model #D8196) over from an automatic to my truck with a 6 speed? I also have a 4" exhaust but I still have the stock exhaust elbow, so it looks like it should fit right in there. How about control issues? I'm assuming these things plug in someplace and know whether or not you're on the throttle?
On that note, if anyone is looking for used parts, let me know and I'll pass along his email address. He's got 6 engines in the shop right now on blocks, and more waiting to come out of trucks (along with transmissions, transfer cases, axles, just about anything really).
