I installed a Pacbrake on my 2004. 5 and find the compressor noise on engine start up and activation when the brake is engaged to be quite loud. Also the cruise control is shut off when the brake is engaged. I assume other folks have experienced the same. Does anyone have a solution to reduce the noise, other than the air tank, and to prevent the cruise control from being shut off?

Thanks

Couple of things.....

1 - Check the gromets that mount the pump..... if these are over tight... . the pump will transfer some of the noise... IF this pump cycles durning times that the brake is NOT on. . you have an air leak between the pump and the pressure switch... ON some trucks we've moved this to the plastic inner fender instead of the firewall mounting position... .

2 - I don't understand the second part of your request... . the exhaust brake should function with the cruise control on or off... ... as long as the correct conditions are met based on the inputs to the ECM... ... If the ECM see's your going too fast down hill with the cruise set... . it will turn on the exhaust brake... . If your seeing the exhaust brake turn off the cruise control, I've not experienced any conditions where turning on the exhaust brake turns off the cruise... Check your wiring at the pins of the ECM

3 - IF your having a problem with the system not acting like it should..... I've found that sometimes the connections aren't good at the ECM... When we install a PacBrake in the shop we pull the connector on the ECM before we insert the wires into the connector... . and look and see that the pins are set correctly... . takes a few extra minutes but well worth the effort.....

Hope this has been of some help.....

Not sure about the 04. 5, but mine is mounted under the airfilter box. After a while you don't notice it.
