I keep burning up the 30/40 amp relay that runs the air compressor for my Pacbrake exhaust brake.

A: Do you think it's because the compressor is getting worn? (7 yrs. old)

B: If it is the compressor, can I replace it with something besides a "Pacbrake" compressor? Theirs is $160.

Thanks

You can use any aftermarket compressor and their are several hat are a much better quality.

The ViaAir460 is one of them tgta is still relatively affordable as well as sturdy, though the ExtremeAire are larger and bulletproof, though I do doubt that either of those compressors will fit in the engine compartment, but it is relatively easy to fabricate mounting behind the bumper or in the frame underneath the truck.

Thanks, I found a Viair that looks really good, the thing I like is it has a 100% duty cycle where the one from PB is 33%.

Did you check to insure you don't have a leak somewhere? My BD was eating relays left and right, but it turned out to be a leak that was causing the relay to cycle excessively and once everything was tightened up the problem with the relay disappeared.
