Hello all. I just purchased newest Dodge Ram truck (as listed in the signature) and for the first time I installed an exhaust brake because I am tired of white knuckle mountain down grades and swtich backs while towing my travel trailer. I went with the Pac Brake PBRX, and so far am pleased with it. I wont get to tow my travel trailer with it for a few more months to really check it out, but empty I am impressed.

To make the brake easier to turn on and off while I am driving my automatic transmission truck, a friend of mine recomended installing an old school headlight dimmer switch on the floor. So I went to the local auto parts store and asked for one for a 1987 Dodge pickup truck (they are all basically the same, you just need a model and year that they were OEM on), and for $8 I got one off the shelf. It has three terminals on it, and you only need two for the application, so you can just tape off the other terminal since it will have power on it when the brake is shut off. It is pretty trick, and I am pleased with the functionality of it. If i had a manual transmission like my last two Dodge trucks, I would have the shifter knob mounted one though since your hand is alread there while you are driving. For an auto, this is hard to beat, if you want to have control over the brake and not have to fiddle with a dash switch.

Thought I would share the info with you guys in case you are looking for options.

I have several trucks and used to sell and install pacbrake.....

Turn it on and leave it on... when you want it off just lean your foot on the throttle or turn it off...

I leave mine on all the time... . tie it into the ECM the way its designed and let it work... if in 10K or 15K miles you don't care for the software in your truck than put the switch in... .

Often too many guys try to re-engineer this and its very simple, and basic and interfaces with the transmission and engine ECM very well...

I agree, mine is interfaced with the ECM on my truck and those driving techniques work fine. Some times in stop and go traffic while I am unloaded I don't like having it on. I am sure there will be other situations that I will want to shut it off too, and that is what the switch is for. I guess the dash switch would work fine, I just like this setup so far, and wanted to share it with fellow TDR members.
