Hello all. I just purchased newest Dodge Ram truck (as listed in the signature) and for the first time I installed an exhaust brake because I am tired of white knuckle mountain down grades and swtich backs while towing my travel trailer. I went with the Pac Brake PBRX, and so far am pleased with it. I wont get to tow my travel trailer with it for a few more months to really check it out, but empty I am impressed.
To make the brake easier to turn on and off while I am driving my automatic transmission truck, a friend of mine recomended installing an old school headlight dimmer switch on the floor. So I went to the local auto parts store and asked for one for a 1987 Dodge pickup truck (they are all basically the same, you just need a model and year that they were OEM on), and for $8 I got one off the shelf. It has three terminals on it, and you only need two for the application, so you can just tape off the other terminal since it will have power on it when the brake is shut off. It is pretty trick, and I am pleased with the functionality of it. If i had a manual transmission like my last two Dodge trucks, I would have the shifter knob mounted one though since your hand is alread there while you are driving. For an auto, this is hard to beat, if you want to have control over the brake and not have to fiddle with a dash switch.
Thought I would share the info with you guys in case you are looking for options.
